Mental Health Resources

The first important step is establishing the connection with your school counselor or the school psychologist to explore appropriate options for your family/child.

Mental health is defined by the World Health Organization as a state of well-being in which the individual realizes his/her own abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to contribute to his/her community.  When a person experiences mental health problems, there may be notable influences on thinking, emotional state, and behavior.  Sometimes there may be disruption in the ability to perform routine tasks on a day-to-day basis (i.e., school, work, activities).  Some mental health considerations for children and adolescence have included depression, anxiety, excessively aggressive behavior, and suicidal feelings/ideation

If you have concerns for your child in any of these areas, you should feel safe and comfortable reaching out for help. River Valley School District’s board, administration and staff wish to offer helpful resources for families and students who have concerns about mental health. Whether you are seeking in-school support for students or looking for outside services and resources, we are happy to help.

When you need help at home right away: If you have an emergency or need immediate assistance, please call 911.

If you have a current mental health crisis, please consider taking your child to a hospital emergency department to seek evaluation to determine if he or she needs immediate assistance or referral for resources.

Talk to your primary health provider and/or insurance carrier.
