Student Activity Clubs

2024-2025 River Valley Middle/High School Club List

Activity clubs engage students beyond academics, fostering social connections and a sense of community. They provide opportunities for skill development in areas like leadership, teamwork, and problem-solving, while allowing students to explore personal interests. These clubs offer a balanced, supportive environment that complements classroom learning and enhances students’ overall school experience and well-being.8th Grade Robotics Club: Sponsor - Mr. Funyak
This club is a continuation of the 8th Grade Robo-Technics course. The 8th Grade Robotics club will give you the time needed to complete the Combat Bot for the end of year competition at Indiana Junior High. Only 8th graders currently taking the course can sign up.
 
Art Club: Sponsor - Ms. Deglau

Art club students meet to work on art projects independently as well as doing projects/murals for the school and community.

AV Club: Sponsor - Mr. Studnicki
The River Valley AV club teaches students the principles of live-streaming sporting and entertainment events. Students will learn how to record a live stream, play content on our video board displays, and, eventually, operate our instant replay systems.
 
Aviation Club: Sponsor - Ms. McNulty
This club is open to any student who would like to discover more about the world of Aviation. Students in this club will find out about the aspects of small aircraft and UAS (Unmanned Aircraft Systems) as well as possible careers in the vast field of professional UAS piloting, private and commercial aviation and flight from experienced pilots. Opportunities will be provided to get involved beyond the club in activities and events at local airports, with local aviation professionals and industries.
 
Best Buddies Club: Sponsors - Ms. Ford & Ms. Magalich
Best Buddies is an interactive club in which a student becomes a Best Buddy of a student with diverse needs.  If you join this club, you will get to experience new friendships, empower individuals with disabilities, and create lasting memories.  You will take two annual field trips outside of school but during the school day, and you will be required to make contact with your buddy at least once a week outside of club time.  Come join this club and become a friend to someone that will enrich your life!
 
Board Game Club: Sponsors - Ms. Gunder & Ms. Jasper
Students will play a variety of board games during the period. This will allow students to engage in healthy competitive play with their peers. Students will have the opportunity to improve their skills on games they already know and also learn new games and strategies.
 
Book Club: Sponsors - Ms. Coulter & Ms. Onorato
Students select a book to read out of a list of choices. Students will read the group selected book prior to the next club meeting. Club advisor(s) will facilitate group discussion on books read by the group.
 
Card Game Club: Sponsors - Ms. Muir & Ms. Shimer

Students will play different card games such as Set, Five Crowns, Uno, Phase 10, etc.

Chess Club: Sponsors - Mr. Blystone & Mr. Buckles
Students will have the opportunity to learn how to play chess and then be able to compete among their peers. We will also investigate the history of chess and look at some of the famous chess masters throughout history. There will be a planned school tournament and potential competitions outside of school if students are interested.
 
Disc Golf Club: Sponsor - Mr. Petree
A club focusing on the rules, fundamentals and playing of disc golf.
 
Dungeons and Dragons Club: Sponsor - Ms. Hanlon
This club will allow for playing time of the game Dungeons and Dragons. Students who have experience playing the game will be asked to teach novice players how to play. Students must bring their own materials to play.
 
Envirothon Club: Sponsor - Ms. Petro
This club will help students prepare for the Indiana County Envirothon.
 
Europe Travel Club: Sponsor - Mr. Sembrat
This club is for students who are traveling to Rome in 2025 with Mr. Sembrat, have traveled with Mr. Sembrat in the past, are interested in traveling with him to Europe in the future, or who hope to travel to Europe on their own in the future. Students will learn the basics about European travel - food, money, shopping, safety, etiquette, hotels, crowds, planning and trying to get the most out of their experience. Students who are traveling with Mr. Sembrat this summer will get the opportunity to explore Rome in detail and help find their unique interests for the trip.
 
Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA): Sponsor - Mr. Frassenei 
This club focuses on serving local communities around the globe by engaging, equipping and empowering coaches and athletes to unite, inspire and change the world through the gospel. We intend on getting special guest speakers and doing activities centered around the teachings of Jesus Christ. We will be open to all students regardless of participation in athletics and current religious beliefs.
 
Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA): Sponsor - Ms. Ciganko
This club is for current and potential FBLA members only. This time would allow students more time to prepare for competitive events, regional and state competitions, and plan more community service and club activities.
 
Gardening Club: Sponsors - Ms. Bouy & Ms. Stuller 

In this club we will maintain the courtyard gardens (weed the flower beds, water the plants, spread mulch, etc.).

Intramural Sports: Sponsors - Mr. Artley, Mr. Gould & Mr. Kulik
Students in grades 6-12 will be able to participate in team sports.
 
Middle School Book Club: Sponsor - Ms. Weir

In this club, students will have the opportunity to read a book of their choice in a relaxing, quiet environment. Club members will have the option to read outside on nice days. Please bring your own book!

Middle School Student Council: Sponsor - Mr. Temple

This club is for middle school student council members only. Members will meet to plan school events, activities, fundraisers, etc.

Movie Club: Sponsor - Mr. Freeman

Watch movies of different genres and discuss.

Muay Thai Fundamentals: Sponsor - Mr. Just 

In this club, members will engage in fundamental exercise and self-defense.

Music Appreciation Club: Sponsors - Mr. Bukosky & Mr. Brady
Students will suggest music selections and we will listen to them and discuss. It's a good way for students to discover new music.
 
National Honor Society and HS Student Council: Sponsors - Ms. Faulk & Ms. Glass.
Students already inducted into the National Honor Society and high school student council can join to attend monthly meetings and discuss upcoming events.
 
Panthers with Pens (Writing Club)
This club will focus on writing of all types, tech writing, and creative writing. We will use some mentor texts for inspiration. Our end goal may be to publish a literary magazine as a showcase of our work.
 
Perseverance Club: Sponsors - Ms. Horchar, Ms. Dunlap & Ms. McFarlin
Students will come to this club to make-up assignments/homework. Success = never giving up despite difficulties.
 
Powerlifting/Weightlifting Club: Sponsors - Mr. Stone & Mr. Riley
Students will learn to use the various machines in the weight room, learn basic safety procedures, proper spotting techniques, how to plan a workout and proper warmup before a workout.
 
Rifle Club: Sponsor - Mr. Dixon
Members of this club will be introduced to the PIAA sport RIFLE.  Students will learn new skills and practice safety.  
 
Science Success Quest Club: Sponsor - Ms. Spadafora
This club is for any student who is interested in science tutoring or help completing their science coursework. This club is also for anyone who wants to use this time to work on their science classwork or get ahead in their coursework where a science teacher is available for assistance if needed. Also, anyone who is interested in attempting more advanced science coursework can join for enrichment opportunities.
 
Seniors Supporting Seniors Club: Sponsor - Mr. Kaylor
Must be a senior to join. An intergenerational bonding initiative impacting and enriching the lives of "seniors."
 
Silent Reading Club: Sponsor - Ms. Marra

Students will read independently in a quiet, silent environment. Students will share information regarding their books with the group, once they complete their books.

Spanish Club: Sponsor - Ms. Altmeyer
Spanish Club provides students an opportunity to experience Spanish/Hispanic language and culture in a casual, fun manner. Some activities that the club may include: crafts, dancing, cooking, foreign films, and field trips. 
 
Star Wars Enthusiast Club: Sponsor - Mr. Heinnickel
Step into a galaxy far, far away with the Star Wars Enthusiasts Club! If you’re passionate about the epic struggle between the Light and Dark sides of the Force, this is the club for you. Join us as we explore the rich universe of Star Wars through various engaging activities and discussions.
 
Strategy Games Club: Sponsors - Ms. Morgan & Ms. Kremer
In this club, students will collaborate and develop their ability to strategize and plan by playing different games. Games would include but not be limited to Set, 24, Battleship, chess, checkers, Uno, etc.
 
Tobacco Resistance Unit: Sponsors - Ms. Thompson & Ms. Bell
The Tobacco Resistance Unit is a movement throughout all of Pennsylvania to help youth, ages 12 to 18, stay tobacco-free. It’s time that young Pennsylvanians get serious about exposing Big Tobacco and its marketing lies. TRU aims to prevent and stop youth tobacco use through education. TRU is funded by a grant through the Pennsylvania Department of Health and managed by the Pennsylvania Alliance to Control Tobacco (PACT) and the American Lung Association in Pennsylvania.

Members of this club will walk inside or outside, depending on weather.
